East Lothian's best amateurs are home in East Lothian and competing in this week's County Cup, a foursome competition open to all clubs in East Lothian. The trophy was presented by the Earl of Wemyss in 1868 and is now recognised as the oldest foursome competition in the world - older than the Amateur. Gullane will be represented by four clubs Gullane GC, Dirleton Castle GC, Comrades GC and the secretive Gullane Nine
There are three recent ex-East Lothian Juniors in the qualifying event for the Amateur starting on Monday 14th June at Muirfield and North Berwick. We wish Mark Hillson ( Craigielaw ) , Neil Henderson The Glen ) and Alexander Culverwell ( Dunbar ) all the best of luck as they try to qualify in the top 64 for the matchplay stages at Muirfield from Wednesday to Saturday. For the draw etc see:- http://www.randa.org
The current Amateur World Rankings (WR) are also on this site, and several of the top players in the world are present. Young players to watch are Jin Jeong (WR6,) Tommy Fleetwood (WR10) and Stiggy Hodgson (WR14) Tom Lewis, age 18, (WR37) the current British and English Boys Champion, and Kevin Tway, (WR15) son of Major winner Bob.
