Championship Details
an amateur event in 1885 to which leading clubs were invited to send entrants. A total of 44players from 12 clubs took part and the winner was Allan Macfie. After the initial success a championship open to all amateurs was held the following year at St Andrews when 24 clubs subscribed to a handsome trophy. Yet it was not until 1922, in a Championship Committee meeting in the Royal and Ancient clubhouse that it was decided to recognise the 1885 event as the first true Amateur Championship and Allan Macfie's name was added to the trophy. | |||||||||||

Information There is free admission and car parking around the venue with catering facilities available on-site. The first two rounds of stroke play for The Amateur Championship are staged over Muirfield and North Berwick on Monday 14 June and Tuesday 15 June 2010. Spectators are welcome on both courses. Match Play Rounds will be played at Muirfield between the following times (approximate):

WONDERING WHAT IS HAPPENING IN GULLANE AND NORTH BERWICK AFTER THE US KIDS HAVE MOVED ON ? WELL THERE IS NO LET UP !! ONLY THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS AMATEUR EVENT IN THE WORLD ( ALONGSIDE THE US AMATEUR ). ALSO KNOWN UNOFFICIALLY AS "THE BRITISH AMATEUR"
17 year old Italian Manuel Manassero is the current champion - he won it last year when only 16 !! ( Click link for details ). He's done very well since ....
Kids from Gullane Primary School have been invited to go along on 18th June and will see what is going on and will receive coaching. These kids already receive clubgolf coaching at Gullane Golf club - the girl in the stripy top is my daughter !!
