NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE SCOTTISH LADIES GOLFING ASSOCIATION
Lesley Atkins (Gullane), the Scottish Girls’ Champion, will head the home challenge at the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association’s Under-16 Open Strokeplay Championship at Strathmore Golf Centre on April 14-15.
Atkins, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency at last year's Girls' Home Internationals, has a one handicap, while the backmarker in the 101 strong field is England’s Bronte Law (Bramhall), who plays off plus one and finished fourth in the Championship last year.
One Scot aiming to make her mark is two handicap Rebecca McGeechan. Based at the Hummerbach Club in Germany, her father is Scottish and she competed in last year’s Scottish Under-21 Open Strokeplay Championship. Other leading Scots in the line-up are Kimberley Beveridge (Aboyne), Clara Young (North Berwick), Tara Mactaggart (Minto) and Lauren Whyte (St Regulus). The last Scottish winner was Carly Booth in 2006.
The Championship is decided over 36-holes and, in additon to the individual section, there is a team event involving Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. England defends the trophy.
