Chloe Williams made the most of perfect scoring conditions at Strathmore Golf Centre in scoring a two under par round of 70 in the first round of the SLGA Under 16 Open Stroke Play Championship. Starting from the 10th tee, the two handicapper from Wrexham Golf Club birdied three holes in a row from the 14th and then birdied the 6th hole to be 4 under par with three holes to play. A four putt double bogey on the 7th hole and bogey on the 8th brought her back to one under par with one to play but she bounced back to birdie the 9th (her 18th) to finish at 2 under par for the day. Bronte Law (Bramhall) is two shots off the lead after a level par 72 with Heather Munro (Monifieth), Amber Ratcliffe (Royal Cromer), Kyra Horlock (Broadstone) and Nia Greville (Ashburnham) two shots further back after 74's. It's all to play for in the team event with Wales and England 1 both on 146, Scotland 1 on 150 and Scotland 2 on 151. 24 players bettered the course par of 72 with their nett scores so there was no surprise that the CSS came down from 73 to 72. The lowest nett score of the day was carded by Ellie Bryce (Strathaven) who scored a nett 64 off her handicap of 27. All the individual scores can be seen from the following link. Live scoring will again be in operation for the second and final round on Friday 15th April and can also be found at this link. Clara is sitting in 7th position with a fine 75 and Lesley is a shot further back in joint 14th with a 76 - not out of it by any means !! ROUND 1 CSS = 72 |
