SUCCESS FOR GULLANE & EAST LOTHIAN YOUNGSTERS !

Rachael Watton reached the Q /F of the Scottish Ladies
Amateur before falling to the eventual winner Kelsey
MacDonald - WELL DONE - full details on Kirkwood Golf

Clara Young, aged 13, of North Berwick GC &
GLGC  , played in the recent Scottish Ladies'
Amateur Championship and was 34th in the
qualifying event, narrowly missing the cut for the
top 32 for the matchplay section. However, Clara then
played with distinction in the Clark Rosebowl,
reaching the semi-final where she lost narrowly.
Clara has just been named as a reserve for the
European Junior Masters in Hungary in July ! These
performances must put Clara in line for selection for
the Scottish Girls Team this year.

Meanwhile, one of East Lothian's best young
boy golfers, Calum Hill, aged 14, has reached the
final of the Tantallon Club Championship where
he will play Shaun Gordon on Sunday 23rd May.
Amongst Calum's wins this week, was a 6&5
win over multi-champion Nial Gemmell. Tantallon's
excellent Junior program is perhaps evidenced by
the fact that most of the 16 qualifiers this year are
current or very recent Juniors.

Scott Gillies won the men's medal at Direlton Castle
Golf Club on Wednesday evening. DCGC have
organised coaching for their junior members and some
of the boys have been playing in their events. Greg
Houlston and Duncan McLean have qualified for
their Championship and play each other in the
first round so we'll have one junior in the second
round. Duncan is also hoping to make the final
of the Singapore Cup meeting experienced player
Alan MacDonald this Friday. ( HE HAS ! )

Qualifying for the Gullane GC Championship takes
place via the Summer Meeting on 12 / 13 June - any
Junior with handicap 5 or less is entitled to play in
the Summer meeting and Championship ( although it
will clash with the Junior Championship )

Stop press - excellent scoring in the Medal today
on No 1. Fantastic gross 71s from both Greg Houlston
( with two eagles ) and Alasdair Simpson and a host of
other good scores - details to follow
