Gullane Juniors Handicap Championship for The Morrison Trophy 2010

This is a Singles match play knock-out competition (full handicap difference) to be played from  May until September. The trophy is open to all junior members of both Gullane Golf Club and Gullane Ladies Golf club who have a handicap. We have automatically entered everyone who has a handicap and who lives reasonably locally.

The competition draw is  now available on the Junior Notice Board which is found in the member’s clubhouse, adjacent to the Secretary’s office.

The challengers name is shown first for each tie and it is that person’s responsibility to contact their opponent in good time to allow for the match to be played by the deadline for each round. In extreme circumstances you can apply to the Junior Convener or the Club Secretary for an extension. Ties should be played as soon as you opponent is known. There is no need to wait for the first round to be completed before playing a second round tie. The first two rounds are to be played by 31 May so please get moving. There are only a few ties in Round 1 so most only have one game to play in May.

We expect common sense to apply in all cases. The challenger should offer up to 3 realistic dates to their opponent. The challenger should also propose the course to play the tie over but ideally that should be a joint decision, bearing in mind that some of our younger members have only had access to No 3 and they should not be made to play on No 1 or No 2 if they are no comfortable.  If agreement cannot be reached you can refer the decision to the junior convener but compromise is suggested – we will normally back the younger player !

The game should be played to a conclusion on a full handicap allowance basis. Remember that girls receive an additional stroke allowance equal to the difference between Ladies SSS and the Course SSS score. The table below shows the difference to be applied for each of our courses.

Course
Mens SSS ( Yellows )
Ladies SSS
Adjustment
No. 1
70
74
4 shots
No. 2
69
73
4 shots
No. 3
66
69
3 shots

For example if a girl playing off a handicap of 16 played against a boy whose handicap was 12 on No. 2. The boy would give a total of 7 shots to the girl.

Boys play from the gents tees (yellows ) with girls playing from the ladies tees (reds). Where stokes are given, they are given as per the stroke index on the men’s card.

Contact details for most players are available from the Junior Convenors by email ( ir.mclean@yahoo.co.uk , gfswan@btinternet.com or black.nicky@googlemail.com )  or the Secretary secretary@gullanegolfclub.com

If needing to know your opponent in the first round or second round please e-mail Gordon – gfswan@btinternet.com

Results should be notified by the winner of each tie who enters the result and puts their name into the next round on the draw sheet on the junior notice board in the member’s clubhouse.
