East Lothian county championship at Dunbar
Clara Young won the "bragging rights" within her family circle by beating her mother Dawn, also a North Berwick GC member, by 2 and 1 in today's quarter-finals of the East Lothian women's county golf championship at Dunbar Golf Club.
Clara is the No 3 seed while Dawn qualified in 11th position but beat the No 6 qualifier and county vice-captain Mary Lou Renton (Gifford) to reach the last eight.
Clara Young now plays Emma Fairnie, beaten finalist in 2006 and 2007 and playing over her home links. Fairnie, the No 2 seed, had a 5 and 4 win over Jane Herd (Musselburgh) in the quarters.
The first semi-final will feature former Scottish girls champion and senior international Moira Thomson (Gullane) and Keren Ward (The Glen). Thomson has won the East Lothian title twice - in 1983 and 2004 - and has been four times in the final, losing in 1985 and 1993.
She beat Elinor Blair (North Berwick) 4 and 2 to reach the last four.
Ward, the No 4 seed, won by 3 and 1 against Alice Archbold (Gullane) who had earlier won the tightest match of the day, at the 19th, against Linda Grieve (Musselburgh), the No 5 seed.
