Gallacher in Ramsay Out !
Ramsay "Suicidal" After Missing U.S. Open Qualifier Playoff
I think that's the urban term the kids use these days for "mildly depressed," but hopefully someone just kept whispering the reassuring word "Congressional" to the Scot after he missed Monday's playoff to determine the final U.S. Open spots.
Ramsay left the Walton Heath 36-hole qualifier with scores of 71 and 69 for a four- under-par tally thinking his effort was not enough to be among the 11 qualifiers for Congressional. He made his way to Heathrow but, after being stuck in traffic, he missed his flight and the wedding of Gareth Maybin.
Okay, first thing here. Who gets married on a Monday?
Sorry, go on Bernie...
Ramsay then received a call from Stephen Gallacher saying he should return as he was likely to be among three players fighting for the last position. Unfortunately, Ramsay was still 15 minutes away from the course when Andreas Hato and Johan Edfors teed up. It was Edfors who was successful.
Ramsay looked distraught in returning 9.20pm, in the dark, to be told he’d missed the chance to join Gallacher and Martin Laird as the only Scots in the June 16 Major.
“I feel suicidal,” he said. “I got a call from Stevie to say four under was in and to get back here. To miss out on the chance to play the US Open makes me feel sick.
The comments are mildly amusing - unless you Are RR

GULLANE MAN QUALIFIES FOR US OPEN !!
FROM THE USGA WEBSITE
STEPHEN GALLACHER QUALIFIES FOR THE US OPEN AT WALTON HEATH
Stephen has been granted playing rights at Gullane in order to keep his game in trim using our excellent facilities, particularly our greens, and when time permits will mentor some of our Juniors - well done our man !! Pictured with Brodie Good earlier this year.
Compiled by European PGA Tour
Nicolas Colsaerts led 11 qualifiers for the U.S. Open Championship after a dominant display at Walton Heath Golf Club, Surrey yesterday.
The big-hitting Belgian continued his fine form with a nine under par aggregate total to book his place in the field for the second major championship of the season at Congressional Country Club from June 16-19.
Colsaerts will be joined at the Bethesda, Maryland venue by Maarten Lafeber, Shane Lowry (who finished joint second), Thomas Levet (fourth), David Howell, Robert Rock (tied fifth), Robert Dinwiddie, Marcel Siem, Alexander Noren, Stephen Gallacher (tied sixth) and Johan Edfors, who took the 11th and final berth after a sudden-death play-off with Denmark's Andreas Hartø.
Colsaerts' appearance at the U.S. Open Championship will be his first in a major championship in America, and the 28-year-old is understandably relishing the prospect.
"I remember Ernie [Els] winning at Congressional in 1997, so I can't wait to get out there and experience it for myself," said Colsaerts." I think it's the sort of course which will suit my game, so hopefully I can play well and enjoy it. I'll probably have to work hard on my short game in the build-up, but I'm excited about it already. I came here with high hopes and did the hard part this morning with my round of 64, so this afternoon I was just able to go out there and enjoy it."
Lafeber's day was almost the polar opposite of Colsaerts, after a morning round of 73 over the Old Course left the Dutchman with the proverbial mountain to climb to ensure qualification.
But he rose to the task magnificently, shooting a scintillating round of 63 over the New Course in fast-fading light to surge through the pack and book his third trip to the U.S. Open.
"I felt like walking off the course after the seventh hole, because I was level par for the day and one over par overall," said Lafeber. "But then I made eagle and followed it up with a birdie, and all of a sudden I got a little bit more interested. Then when I made two more birdies I got very excited, and to finish with three more from the 16th was an incredible feeling."
Lowry was equally ecstatic after rounds of 69 in the morning and 67 in the afternoon secured him a first visit to the U.S. Open.
"It feels great to qualify - I've never played the U.S. Open before, so I can't wait to get out there," said Lowry. "I've been playing well for a while now and obviously came off a great result at the BMW PGA Championship, so I fancied my chances of qualifying. But it's all very well fancying your chances, it's quite another to go out there and do it, so I'm absolutely delighted."
Among the men who failed were Colin Montgomerie, Scott Jamieson and Richie Ramsay although the Aberdonian is second reserve, having been deprived of a play-off place to which he was entitled.

LOTHIANS BID FOR RECORD 10th SCOTTISH BOYS' AREA TEAM TITLE
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE SCOTTISH GOLF UNION
Defending champions Lothians will have a record tenth title in their sights when the 2011 Scottish boys' area team championship, supported by Dunfermline Building Society, gets underway at Hayston GC on the outskirts of Glasgow this Sunday (June 5).
Two of the players who enjoyed success at Peebles last year retain their places in the side, with former Scottish boys' champion Grant Forrest lining up alongside Liberton's Anthony Blaney ( also a Gullane member and Junior Team Player ) for the second year in a row. The duo combined superbly in the morning foursomes twelve months ago with a superb four-under par 66, setting their side up for a four-shot victory over Lanarkshire.
They will be joined by Scottish Golf Academy player Callum Hill, a semi-finalist in the national match play championship at Dunbar and Newbattle youngster Lee Morgan, who makes his first appearance in the team.
The recently crowned Scottish boys' champion David Wilson (Troon Welbeck) heads a strong Ayrshire quartet with 2008 Scottish boys' stroke-play champion Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) also in the side alongside clubmate Euan Walker and another promising Troon Welbeck member, Charlie MacNeal.
Last year’s silver medallists Lanarkshire will be aiming to go one better this time around and their line-up features Junior Champion of Champions winner Craig Ross (Kirkhill) and Mount Ellen’s Eamon Bradley, who performed well in last week’s Scottish men's stroke-play championship at Blairgowrie.
Host Area Dumbartonshire, looking for a seventh championship win, include Angus Carrick, son of former Scottish amateur champion David, while Fife, whose men’s side won the recent Scottish area team championship, go in search of an historic double with a side featuring Scottish boys' championship semi-finalist Benjamin Kinsley (St Andrews).
Meanwhile, the Argyll and Bute boys side, eyeing a first title win, features 14-year-old Bob MacInytre (Glencruitten)( playing in US Kids ) , who shot to prominence with a win in the recent SGU Junior Tour event at Rowallan Castle.
Sixteen Area Associations will compete in the Scottish boys' area team championship, supported by Dunfermline Building Society, with the four leading Under-18s in each area being selected for the teams. The format is two foursomes pairings in the morning with four singles in the afternoon.
Dunfermline Building Society supports the championship for the second year in a row, having been a partner of the Scottish Golf Union since 2007. Through their Fairway Saver Savings Account, more than £30,000 has been invested in grass roots golf in Scotland, with the opportunity for golfers to open an account available at Dunfermline Building Society’s 34 branches across Scotland. For more information visit www.dunfermline.com
Hayston Golf Club is located is located one mile from Kirkintilloch on the north- east side of Glasgow and the James Braid-designed parkland course is a gently undulating, tree-lined lay-out which will prove an enjoyable challenge for the country’s leading young golfers.

Lothian Boys Championship 2011 - Qualifying
"The Lothians Boys Championship Qualifying event was reduced to 18 holes as players took 5 hours to complete the course with balls veering off into the whins with gay abandon. The decision was vindicated as the conditions worsened in the afternoon.
16 players with scores of 84 or better go through to the knock out stages starting at 5pm on Tuesday evening. The leading scores of 77 came from Euan Bowden (The Glen) and Fraser Thain (West Linton) with Euan taking the Lindsay Trophy on the better inward half. Willem Kerr (Craigielaw) was awarded the best Under 16 prize with his 79, Euan Bowden having already won the main trophy. needless to say the CSS was +3 (Reduction only). Some of the younger players are to be congratulated in completing their rounds where other more experienced players 'gave up' and posted 'no returns'. (Or maybe they ran out of balls!!!)"
Gullane comment - it was no joke on the Braids - conditions were nigh on unplayable with putts being blown off greens and balls in the air disappearing from view, left and right - most Gullane members were out later and the last group took 4.5 hours plus to play 13 holes waiting on many tees before deciding enough was enough after 14 - I don't blame them !!
However - congratulations to Gullane Junior members Alexander Wilson , Alasdair Simpson and Fraser Thain who battled through - good luck in the knock-out stages. Commiserations to the other 9 who played !

Played on famous courses such as Royal Portrush, Carnoustie, Troon and Celtic Manor, the Championships allow competitors to play 36 shots and place their flag where the final shot finishes, with the winners being those achieving the greatest distance around their chosen course.
Founded by PGA professional Alasdair Good in 1995 and having enjoyed seven fantastic years of HSBC support, Wee Wonders are now looking for a new title sponsor. ‘We are delighted to be working with Steve Sutherland and Mark Blackbourne on the promotion of ‘Wee Wonders’ and we are working hard to follow up a long list of possible sponsors for the tournament. We are making good progress with a number of these and are feeling very positive about getting the Wee Wonders Championships up and running again very soon.’ said Alasdair Good.
Commenting on the launch of Wee Wonders, Duncan Weir, Director of Golf Development at The R&A said, ‘Wee Wonders is now firmly established as one of the leading competitions of its type in the world. It offers talented young boys and girls the opportunity to compete and thrive in a series of well organised events. Players who participate in Wee Wonders will receive the grounding they need to go far in golf.”
Former Wee Wonders Ambassador, Nick Dougherty said: “The standard of golf is absolutely phenomenal and the good thing is that the kids have got really great attitudes and they learn really great lessons from the tournament,” said Dougherty. “It’s a great opportunity for kids; a great opportunity for them to learn and to have a lot of fun too,” he added.

7/05/2011 | Lothians will 'benefit in long run' |
JUNIOR convenor Paul Gibson is inperturbed about Lothians losing 10-5 to Perth & Kinross in an annual boys' match at Whitemoss. "Although the result was fairly one-sided, I am heartened by the close matches," he said. "It is obvious that P&K fielded their strongest team with the exception of Bradley Neil...that's fine. "I will not deviate from trying to encourage our youngsters. After all, that's in line with our coaching programme. "Results like this are okay, we will benefit in the long run." Murray Naysmith and Murray Paterson won both their matches for Lothians but Stuart Blair was the only other victor for the visitors in the afternoon singles.
