Scottish Alliance champs
Former Welsh amateur international Gareth Wright won the Tartan Tour's Royal Dornoch Young Masters pro title on Monday - and continued in a winning vein to become the Scottish Alliance champion at the end of the next three days at Gullane.
Wright, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, had rounds of 67 over the shorter, Par 68 No 3 course and two scores of 65 over the par-71 No 2 course. Add all that together and you get an impressive winning total of 13-under-par 197 for the son of the West Linton club professional.
Wright was three shots behind joint leaders David Patrick (Elie) and David Orr (East Renfrewshire) at the start of the final 18 holes over the No 3 course.
Patrick's closing 69 failed by one shot to hold off the charing Wright while Orr, having started on Tuesday with a brilliant score of 60, finished with a more mundane round of 71, although par nevertheless for 202.
Tom Buchanan Duddingston) was third behind Wright (197) and Patrick (198) with a 69 for 201 while Orr shared fourth place with Alan Lockhart (Ladybank) who closed with a 67.
John Fowler, a one-handicapper from Hayston, won the leading amateur award with scores of 68, 70 and 72 for level par 210. A good effort. He was the only amateur in the leading 22 finishers.
