Midlothian, Stirling and Clackmannan first-day winners

at East Division team championship
Midlothian made a winning start to the defence of the East Division women's inter-county team championship at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club today (Monday) but it was a close-run thing against Fife.
Midlothian, winners by a 5-4 margin, were grateful in the end for the one-point lead they established in the morning foursomes because it proved decisive at the after the singles were shared 3-3.
The experienced Karen Marshall and improving teenager Rachael Watton, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, won twice for Midlothian.
Fife's two former Scottish champions, Elaine Moffat and Fiona (Lockhart) Hastie), both won in the singles.
The other match was also a tight encounter with Stirling and Clackmannan edging a 5-4 victory over East Lothian.
Stirling and Clackmannan gained that vital one-point foursomes lead and could afford to settle for a 3-3 share of the singles.
East Lothian county champion Emma Fairnie finished the day with a 100 per cent success record ( in one of her final amateur events ) through a lead-off foursomes partnership with Fiona Priot and a 6 and 5 win in the top singles tie against Louise MacGregor, the Stirling and Clackmannan county champion
