SCOTLAND BOYS JUST MISS OUT IN PRAGUE

Scotland’s boys failed narrowly in the European boys' championship at Prague in the Czech Republic.

Their individual scores were:
Grant Forrest 70, Greg Marchank 70, Eamon Bradley 72, Ewan Scott 73, Anthony Blaney 74, Jack McDonald 78.

Their team total of 723 put them in joint ninth position, only one shot more than the seventh and eighth top-flight qualifiers Ireland and France. 
England missed out in 15th place with 735.

2011 European Boys Team Championship Scores & Results, Prague City Golf Club

The German Boys Golf Team led the 2011 European Boys Team Championship strokeplay qualifying with a fifteen under par total score of 705 at Prague City Golf Club, Prague, Czech Republic, earlier today.

In a distance second place, seven shots in arrears, were the Finish and Spanish Golf Teams on -8, followed by Austria on -4, Italy on -3,  Denmark on -2 and the final two qualifying spots were taken by Ireland and France on +2.

With eight teams making it through to the top-flight matchplay stages after round 2, the home nations teams of Wales, England and Scotland failed to make it through to the matchplay knock-out stages.

Robin Goger of Austria was the leading individual with a pair of -5, 67s for -10, 134. There was some encouragement for Scotland, with two boys finishing in the leading individual race top-20.

ENGLAND TOP SEEDS IN EUROPEAN GIRLS' TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
England are top seeds in the European girls’ team championship at Is Molas, Sardinia – helped by superb sub-par rounds from Emily Taylor and Bronte Law. 
The team completed the 36-hole stroke-play qualifying on three-over par, with the best five scores counting from six. They were three ahead of second-placed Spain and 27 shots clear of their first round opponents Italy, who are the hosts and eighth qualifiers.
Emily Taylor (Royal Lytham and St Annes) added a bogey-free, five-under 67 to her opening 70 and has the distinction of topping the individual table at seven-under par. “It was a fantastic performance,” said Pat Smillie, England’s national junior coach. 
Bramhall's Bronte Law went one better in the second round with a six-under 66, which improved on her first round score by 13 shots. She had seven birdies on her card and her play was described by Pat Smillie as: “Very special.”
Georgia Hall (Remedy Oak) scored one-over par 73 and took third place individually with a 36-hole total of one-under par. The other qualifying scores on the second day were provided by English girls’ champion Elizabeth Mallett (Sutton Coldfield Ladies) and British champion Lauren Taylor (Woburn) who both returned 77. The 80 of Heidi Baek (Felixstowe Ferry) was discounted.
The leading eight teams will now contest the championship match-play.
Championship flight qualifiers (in relation to par after 36 holes' stroke-play)
+3 England, +6 Spain, +16 France, +19 Finland, +26 Belgium, +28 Germany, +29 Sweden, +30 Italy.
+Scotland finished 14th of 19 with a total of 789, ahead of 16th placed Ireland (791) and 17th placed Wales (819).
Scotland's second-day scores were:
Eilidh Briggs 76, Alyson McKechin 76, Clara Young (NB & Gullane)78, Hannah McCook 79, Lauren Whyte 80, Ailsa Summers 82.

Day One 

Scotland are unlikely to qualify for the top flight of the European girls team championship at Is Molas GC, Sardinia. They are lying 16th in a field of 19 with a first-round, best five from six team total of 400 - 24 shots worse than the team in eighth place overnight, Norway.

Scotland scores were: Elidh Briggs 75, Alyson McKechin 76, Hannah McCook 82, Clara Young 82, Ailsa Summers 85, Lauren Whyte 86 (non-counting).

England's Lauren Taylor, the new British women's champion, had the lowest score ofthree-under-par 69. She was one of nine players to get under the par of 72. 

Finland (361) lead from England (363) and Spain (367). Ireland and Wales, like Scotland, are unlikely to make the top flight of eight. The Irish are lying 15th on 398, the Welsh 17th on 421.

SCOTTISH BOYS U16 CHAMPIONSHIP FIRST DAY'S PLAY ABANDONED

Round one at the Scottish Boys Under 16's Open Stroke Play Championship has been abandoned today at Forfar GC.
With no let-up in the torrential rain and no improvement forecast Championship Officials were regrettably forced to abandon play at mid-day. 
Round two tee-times for Thursday 7 July will still apply and players are requested to report to the Championship Office a minimum of 30 minutes before their tee-time.  
The cut will now take place after 18 holes with the top 40 and ties qualifying for 36 holes on Friday 8 July.

Gullane Juniors invitation 3rd July 2011

Hi Clubgolfers,

Last Sunday was the invitation from the Gullane juniors to our clubgolf children to come along and have a go on #3 golf course. It was a great day with the sun shining and the standard of play was very high. We had children playing both the full 18 holes and the fun 6 hole competition and without exception everyone had a great day out.

On behalf of clubgolf and the children, i would like to thank Gullane GC, Iain Mclean and Nicki Black (Junior Convenors) for extending the invitation to include the clubgolf kids.

There's still a couple of spaces for the Summer camps if anyone's interested but i know it has been very popular so call the pro shop if your interested.

Double for Gullane Girls in Janice Moodie !!

RACHEL POLSON FROM PETERCULTER WINS JANICE MOODIE TROPHY

A total of 39 players played in the Janice Moodie Trophy at Windyhill Golf Club today. The course was in fantastic condition considering the recent wet weather. The green staff are to be congratulated as they have done an amazing job on the course and had the greens running at 11 on the stimp metre, making it very challenging day for the girls. 
The girls also faced some tough pin positions, given that the semi-finals of the men's club championship were being played later in the evening. 
The competition was a outstanding advert for Scottish girls golf with a field including Scottish girls internationals as well as some of the promising younger players . The ages ranged from 11 - 21 and the handicaps from +1 to 29. 
The ladies who had kindly volunteered to ball spot today were very impressed with the quality of the golf that they saw. A mention also has to go to one of our youngest competitiors, Charlotte Munro aged 11, who managed to win her age category despite having rushed from finishing school in Gullane earlier in the day.
Rachel Polson, pictured above, made the trip down to Glasgow from Aberdeenshire well worthwhile. The Peterculter player was the overall winner with a gross 73 for a net 67. 
Last year's Scottish girls champion Lesley Atkins (Gullane) equalled the score of 73 to win the the scratch prize. Both are to be congratulated on their scores.
Once again the girls were well look after thanks to Janice's generosity and enjoyed drinks and lunch courtesy of Janice after the competition. 

Lastly thanks must go to everyone involved in organising the day and also to Janice Moodie for her continuing support of this popular event.

ADAM DUNTON PIPPED BY ENGLISH RIVAL IN FALDO QUALIFIER

Pickard shot a pair of 68s for an eight-under-par total of 136, one better than Dunton (67-70). The English player had 13 birdies over the two rounds and it was the last of them, at the 16th, that edged him ahead again of Dunton who had a bag of 10 birdies in all and covered the last five holes in three under par with birdies at the 14th, 15th and 16th. It was even closer at the top of the girls' scoreboard with Jordana Graham (Southerness) and Lesley Atkins (Gullane Ladies), last year's Scottish girls champion, both finishing on 149. Jordana, who had rounds of 74 and 75 to Lesley's 73 and 76, was placed first by virtue of her better second round. CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION
The competition shall be open to junior amateur golfers who are members of recognised clubs and were aged under
18 on 1st January 2011. Maximum handicaps allowed - Boys 28, Girls 36.
The competition shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf and the special rules for stroke-play competitions
as approved by The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and in accordance with the local rules.

The premier award for boys is the C. L. Muir Trophy. The premier award for girls is the Dodhead Quaich.
In the event of a tie for the C. L. Muir Trophy, Royal Bank of Scotland Trophy or the Dodhead Quaich, the winner will
be the competitor having the better inward half. If still tied, the better score over the last 6 holes, 3 holes will decide.
As in all other ties, prize vouchers will be shared equally.
No competitor will be eligible to win more than one prize. In the event of a competitor qualifying for a prize in both
handicap and scratch sections, he/she will be awarded the prize which has the higher value.
The C. L. Muir Trophy, Royal Bank of Scotland Trophy and Dodhead Quaich will remain the property of Burntisland Golf
House Club.
The Committee reserves the right to reject any entry and to alter or amend any of the Conditions and their decision
in all disputes shall be final.
