Medal 14th March 2010
Hi Everyone !
Congratulations to Alasdair Simpson who won the Winter Stableford Series with 72 points - second was Jamie Black , with Olly Ladbrooke and Graham Swan third equal.
I will also update on the Junior Winter League shortly - we've done well - details will follow on the blog
Your fixture cards are in the post this week.
Medal - on Sunday 14th March there is a medal on No 1 (12.00 - 12.30 for lower handicaps) and No 3 (12.00 - 12.48). It is the opening Medal of the new season - so will be great to have a good turn-out - it helps if you let the Starter know in advance that you will be coming. I know it's Mothers Day but you can still get the flowers in early and provide breakfast in bed and get out golfing !! The courses are as easy as they get - good condiition - no rough - so if the weather is good they are there for the taking ....
We will be running the Biggart Baillie LLP Order of Merit again this year to encourage participation so good to get points on the board early doors. If you want to know more about Biggart Baillie see http://www.biggartbaillie.co.uk/
We are also going to do a Scratch Order of Merit for lower handicap players where points will be awarded for scratch scores in designated events throughout the season - requiring a good level of participation over the season ( although some discards allowed ) and with the carrot of a game at Muirfield later in the season for leading players. More detail to follow but please treat this medal as a Counter . Sponsor welcome ?
This is a "Starred Medal" day. This means that we are encouraging all of you who don't yet have a handicap and who haven't played much golf, to come along and play 6 holes using the shorter club golf tees. This may involve some of our younger less experienced golfers so we will accompany you and help if needed. Could you please let me or Nicky know know if you are interested in playing so we know how many people might be needed to walk round?
Of course if you are up to 18 holes on No 3 that is fine too - we are happy for parents or relatives to walk round with their kids on No 3. If you don't yet have a handicap it is an opportunity to submit a card to obtain one.
The Ladies have organised juice and biscuits at for girls 4pm in the main Clubhouse. This is a chance for girls to meet and welcome new members, to have a quick chat about medal procedures, to explain how to get your handicap and to answer any questions you might have.
Boys will be welcome in the main Clubhouse too - either the front or back lounges - I might even ask if its OK to set up and XBox or PS3 ( for Tiger Woods PGA Tour only !! )
Three polite suggestions for this season
1 No Returns - are a no-no - save in horribly bad weather please complete your round - even if a hole or two are disaster areas
2 Always check and SIGN your card - the blog now has an example prominenently displayed !!
3 Why don't you phone round in advance and check if others fancy playing ? We will try to accommodate any reasonable requests to allow you to play with your pals although it is also good to play with others of differing abilities
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday. Martin Black and I will be in attendance as will be Nicky Black and Irene Campbell
Next events will be match v Loretto on Sun 21 March and Spring Meeting on 4th April - details will be on blog soon
Cheers !
Iain
