Match v West Lancs - The Result !

We had an fantastic day on Tuesday at Luffness hosting West Lancs GC on the first leg of their Scottish tour. Luffness were kind enough to give us courtesy of the course to play the match, given that Gullane has been busy with other things. The weather was good on Tuesday ! Luffness's hospitality was splendid including an excellent lunch enjoyed by all. West Lancs made presentations to both Gullane and Luffness of their history and detailed past historic connections between the clubs - Barry Coyne is a budding Archie Baird !  Our Captain Greg Houlston spoke well on behalf of Gullane and our boys welcomed the opportunity to play another fine local course.

The visitors were taken by the fantastic golfing opportunities available in East Lothian, particularly at Gullane. A few ventured out again for some holes in the late afternoon after being impressed by what was on offer at the British Girls.

There was a high quality scratch match, 4 ball better ball, between 16 young golfers with handicaps ranging from Scratch - 10, and featuring a sprinkling of national & county players. The Gullane 4th pairing combined particularly well !

Match results

Greg Houlston & Anthony Blaney beat  James Rooney & Matthew Thomson  3&1
Michael Williams & Thomas Simmonds lost to Grace Cannon & Josh Curtin 1up
Graham Swan & Scott Gillies beat Henry Gibbs & Liam Nolan 2&1
Jamie Black & Olly Ladbrooke beat George Apel & Matthew Wilcox 4&3

A fine "away" win for Gullane 3 -1 against a strong touring team from an excellent Club !

Bring on the remaining league fixtures and matches against the Men and away to Kilmarnock ( Barassie )

West Lancashire Golf Club

The West Lancashire Golf Club was founded in 1873 and is
among the ten oldest golf clubs in England, and boasts one
of the most natural and testing links in the British Isles.

Imaginative and varied in layout, the course has so much more
to offer than simply a wonderful experience of classic links with
stunning views of the Mersey Estuary, Anglesey and the Welsh
Mountains.

The West Lancashire Golf Club has hosted Final Qualifying for
The Open Championship when it has been played at Royal
LiverpoolRoyal Lytham and Royal Birkdale and will do so
again in 2012 when the The Open returns to Royal Lytham.

The Club co-hosted The Amateur Championship in 2009 which
was won by the Italian teenage sensation Matteo Manassero who
joins an illustrious list of golfers (see History) who have played in
competition on the links that are ranked among the UK's "Top One
Hundred Courses"

Our recently refurbished modern clubhouse offers state of the art
facilities. In its comfortable bars, dining rooms and lounges you can
relax after your round on the links and take in the spectacular views
while enjoying a drink and sampling our excellent food.

At West Lancashire we are proud of our history and challenging
championship links where visitors are most welcome throughout
the year. We look forward to welcoming you for a round in the
near future.
