10 yo Charlotte Munro wins U16 clubgolf Junior Masters at Renaissance with 37 points ( gross 90 ) coming first out of 30 girls from all over Scotland !!

Congratulations also to Sarah who also qualified and finished well in 18th position and Graham & Jack who finished 19th and 31st out of 52 boys.

TEN Lothians youngsters are among the future stars of Scottish golf
taking part in the clubgolf Junior Masters Final at The Renaissance
Club in East Lothian tomorrow.

Craigielaw's Gabrielle MacDonald won the girls' title at Gleneagles last
year and Gullane duo Charlotte Munro and Sarah Dunlop, as well as
Emily Dalgety of Glencorse, are among the 30 players vying for that
on this occasion.

The boys' event has a 51-strong field that includes another Gullane duo 
in Jack Dunlop and Graham Swan, Glen pair Nicholas Thomson and
Greig Govenlock, Swanston New's Jackson Bell, Ryan Sloan of Glencorse
and Gregory Wood from Gogarburn.

"The Renaissance Club will provide a fitting venue for the final and having
the unique opportunity to play on this superb course has provided a huge
incentive for boys and girls from across Scotland. I am certain they will all
enjoy the experience," said clubgolf Project Manager Torquil McInroy.

"Once again we have seen many talented junior golfers competing in the
regional finals of the clubgolf Junior Masters. Over the last six years 180,000
primary school children have been introduced to golf through our introductory
game, firstclubgolf, and a significant number of this year's finalists have come
 through the clubgolf programme. Events like the Junior Masters encourage
these youngsters to stay within the game ."

While the eyes of the world will be on Celtic Manor for Sunday’s Ryder Cup showdown, the future stars of Scottish Golf will be gathered on the East Lothian coastline when The Renaissance hosts the clubgolf Junior Masters Final (Sunday 3 October).

Run by the SGU and SLGA with support from clubgolf, the Junior Masters has become the country’s biggest participation junior golf event over the last decade, with more than 2,000 youngsters competing in local qualifying this year.

The leading 51 boys and 30 girls from the four regional finals will line up in Sunday’s final, hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Carly Booth and Scott Henry, both of whom made announced themselves on the national stage in the event.

With the clubgolf Junior Masters open to all boys and girls aged under 16 with a handicap at an SGU and SLGA affiliated club, the final has produced a diverse field, with handicaps ranging from 3 to 36 and a total of 62 clubs across Scotland represented, from Hawick in the Borders to Kingussie in the Highlands.

Among those looking to etch their name on the trophy are Mouse Valley duo Clare Whitelaw and Andrew Thomson, who were both victorious in the South Regional Qualifier in July. The club’s success comes as no surprise however, with a thriving junior section of more than 100 junior members as part of the clubgolf national programme.

Another strong contender will be Fraserburgh’s Thomas Cameron, who was the leading stableford points scorer in the boys’ qualifying with a superb 46-point haul. At just 11-years-old, Cameron still has several years of Junior Masters ahead but can already call on the support of Scotland internationalists and fellow club members Jordan Findlay and Kris Nicol, who he enjoys occasional bounce games with. Kaylan Grainger (Strathpeffer Spa) was the top points in the girls’ qualifying and will be hoping to repeat her 47 point total in East Lothian on Sunday.

The Renaissance Club, which opened to great acclaim in April 2008, provides a superb venue for the final, giving youngsters the opportunity to experience a world class golf course. Located alongside Muirfield and Archerfield Links, the club hosts an SGU event for the first time.

The Junior Masters, sponsored by Dunfermline Building Society, is Scotland's largest participation junior golf event for boys and girls, open to all U16s club members with a handicap. Featuring four regional finals across the country during the summer holidays. More than 2,500 youngsters from 180 golf clubs took part last year.

clubgolf Junior Masters - Glencorse - 3rd August

Four of our handicap junior golfers have qualified for and are playing in this Regional Final - the prize for doing well is a trip to the Grand Final at ....... Renaissance ( travel expenses will be picked up by the Club ! )

For the boys we have Jack Dunlop, making his well deserved representational debut, and Graham Swan. Our girls feature Sarah Dunlop and Charlotte Munro.

Gen re Glencorse 

Voted one of Scotland's hidden gems by US Sports Illustrated, Glencorse was founded in 1890 and designed by Willie Park. Many famous golfers are associated with Glencorse including George Macgregor the former Walker Cup Captain and Bernard Gallacher the former Ryder Cup Captain who are both members.



Glencorse is a very picturesque 18 hole parkland course of 5217 yards and although it has eight par three's (five for ladies) it certainly cannot be described as an easy course. Only one par three is under 200 yards.

Glencorse is a formidable test for the highest quality golfer, but still great fun for the more modest competitor. It is ideal for a day’s golf.

Juniors Update / clubgolf Junior Masters / U14 Championship Qualifying / Medals

Next Medal - Sun May 23rd 12 noon - No 1 This will be the qualifier for the clubgolf Junior Masters ( formerly the Dunfermline BS Junior Masters ), the regional final of which will be at Glencorse and the Grand Final at The Renaissance . The Junior Masters is an Under 16 event we should be able to enter two boys and two girls, being the two best handicap scores for each - well worth trying to qualify for this one !!

This medal will also count for the Scratch Order of Merit ( the Race to Muirfield ! ) - I'll get the current standings on the blog this week - so everyone should play - team squad especially !

On Sun 30th we have a Junior Medal on no 3 which will also comprise the Qualifying Round for the U14 Championship ( age as at 1 Jan 10 ). 8 best scratch scores for u14s will qualify. Older members should also play in the medal although some will be at the Lothian Boys Championship Qualifying at The Braids ( 36 holes ). All u14s should play - you never know !!

The Team had a good draw v Craigielaw on Sunday - a very high standard of golf is being played and the competition is tough - not quite the start to the campaign we would have hoped for but we can still do well in our remaining fixtures and apply pressure on the competition who will all take points off each other.

HOPEFULLY  THOSE IN THE MORRISON TROPHY ARE GETTING YOUR GAMES ORGANISED IN MAY !!

Well done to our two for doing so well to qualify. Lara achieved mid table respectability finishing 19th out of 30 and Sarah did great for a 12 yo on a tough new ( to her ) course with fast and tricky greens - she started and finished well and will be back for more !
