Gullane at Scottish Boys
There were no fewer than 8 Gullane Junior Members playing at the Paul Lawrie Scottish Boys at Murcar - possibly the biggest contingent there - albeit only 3 of these 8 chose to show Gullane as their home club ( Hmmm ! ). The handicap cut was originally 5.7 and Graham Swan also squeezed in having made the trip up as a reserve. There was a class field of 256 - fierce competition.
Our players gave a good account of themselves although in a knock-out competition it always ends in disappointment for 255 out of 256 !
Our Captain Michael Williams is a bit disappointed with his R1 exit and the excitement must have been too much for Graham Swan ( & Gordon ) as he also succumbed in R1. There were however excellent wins for Anthony Blaney 6&4 , Alexander Wilson 5&4, Thomas Simmonds 6&5, Murray Patterson 3&2 , new member Stuart Blair 3&1 and Gary Brownlee ( representing Tantallon ) 1up . Gary fell at the next hurdle to Willem Kerr of Craigielaw as did all of Thomas ( to Scottish squad member Flannery ) , Murray and Stuart. Anthony marched on before losing in R3 by 1 hole - a disappointing end in his final year.
Alexander Wilson did best - three big wins ( 5&4 , 7&5 , 5&4 v Callum Satterly of Longniddry & Merchiston Golf Academy ) carrying through his Junior Tour form before a narrow loss in R4 to Laurence Allan of Alva.
Congratulations to Craig Howie from Peebles who won the Championship ! He was third in the SGU Tour Event at Gullane No 2 the week before - behind our very own Anthony & Alexander.
Bring on 2013!!
