Have you noticed how your computer runs (much) more slowly when it has lots of different files and programmes open? It's the same with your mind. It's much harder to try to remember everything and play golf. You can actually become more nervous trying to remember to implement everything you've learned. This can lead to a feeling that what you're learning won't work for you and have you searching for the next 'secret' to mastering the game. When you point the suns' rays through a magnifying glass, they become one beam, which can quickly set fire to a leaf. Rather than trying to put all the things you've learned into practice all at once, apply this principle to your game. Be specific and clear on ONE thing you are working on in practice - for example, visualising getting putts in, rather than not three putting. Why not write this one thing down on a piece of card and look at it before every putt. That way you won't forget it. It takes about 21 days on average to learn a new habit, so after a few weeks start working on something else - but not before you have mastered what you are working on! |
