First Green

1st.jpg

Positional shot with three wood or long iron to centre right of fairway, provides a short iron or pitch to a green which slopes away. A running approach landing short of the ridge at the front of the green often produces the best result in dry or downwind conditions.

Lothian Clubs Dominate Home Nations

By MARTIN DEMPSTER

LOTHIANS clubs dominated the quarter-finals of the Home Nations Junior Inter Club Championship.
Liberton and Craigielaw filled the top two spots in one event at Scotscraig, while Pumpherston and Gullane were the qualifiers at Downfield.
It was quite an achievement given that teams representing Leagues from Aberdeen, Ayrshire, Carnoustie, Fife, Glasgow, Linlithgow, Dumbarton, and Lanarkshire were also competing.
It also included both of Paul Lawrie’s sons, Craig and Michael, who were playing for Deeside.
Liberton, represented by Anthony Blaney, Keiran Cantley, Scott Finlay, Alan McLaren, Fraser Christie and Daniel Eardley, won their qualifier by 14 shots.
Former Scottish champions Craigielaw also progresed with a team comprising of Calum Cochrane, Lewis Ross, Stuart Blair, Oliver Duffy, Willem Kerr and Marcus Cullen.
Pumpherston produced an equally impressive display to win by 11 shots in Dundee, where Chris Curran, Kerr Anderson, Adam Loch, Andrew Loch, Calum Kelly and Mark McGeoch flew the flag for the West Lothian club.
On duty for Gullane as they, too, progressed to the last four were Alexander Wilson, Tom Simmonds, Graham Swan, Scott
Gillies, Duncan McLean
and Michael Williams.
The semi-finals are at Panmure on October 15, when Craigielaw will play against Pumpherston and Gullane will face Liberton in a medal matchplay format with the final in the
afternoon.
